MAMY BLUES

An Adoption, a Search, a Reunion.

Adoption seen through the eyes of an adoptee in Quebec, whose search for origins is shaped by personal, sociological, and legal questions. Through a deeply intimate narrative, Sylvie Bérard places the adoptee at the center of this essay, exploring the multiple dimensions of adoption and shedding light on the lived realities of adoptees and the challenges surrounding access to one’s origins in the context of a closed adoption.

Mamy Blues, a book about adoption

ABOUT

Sylvie Bérard, author

Born in 1970 at Montréal’s Hôpital de la Miséricorde, Sylvie Bérard was adopted at two and a half years old. In 2019, after more than thirty years of searching, she reunited with her family of origin, an experience that became the catalyst for her first book, Mamy Blues: An Adoption, a Search, a Reunion.

After seven years in California and an early career in museum studies, Sylvie shifted toward holistic medicine and completed her training in acupuncture. She has maintained a private practice in Montréal for over twenty years. She is the mother of a teenage son and an enthusiastic taekwondo practitioner. Mamy Blues is her first book.
