PETALES Québec was pleased to welcome Sylvie Bérard live, author of the moving and inspiring book “Mamy Blues: An Adoption, a Search, a Reunion,” published in the spring of 2025 (English Edition in March 2026) .
Through this work, which blends autobiographical narrative and essay, Sylvie Bérard takes us through her personal journey as an adoptee, marked by a challenging search for her origins.
She explores the institutional and psychological obstacles faced by adoptees in Quebec while recounting her long struggle to find her biological mother, a search that ultimately succeeded thanks to a DNA test in 2019.
Both deeply personal and socially engaged, this book offers a profound reflection on identity, resilience, and the silence surrounding a system that remained closed and restrictive for many years.
Sylvie Bérard, born in Montreal in 1970 and adopted at the age of two and a half, combines her personal experience with historical perspectives and legal issues to shed light on a reality that is too often overlooked.
